This Christmas

In all the days that mark the path behind us,
For the very steps we take on the road at our feet,
And hope for the journey that proves to be our future,
Once again Christmas has come to warm us this winter.

Unlike all the memories we hold of the past,
Unlike the thoughts we have of the present,
Completely different are the dreams of the future,
Because this Christmas should be different than before.

With carols, gifts, smiles, pies, holly, bows, bags and ribbons,
Joy, hope, faith, cheer and charity,
Memories of sorrows forgotten, dreams in peace abound,
May we remember every type of celebration bursting to life…

But please, before it all starts, before you open Christmas,
I have only one wish and one wish alone,
In awaited joy mixed with burdened sorrow,
I ask you may listen, just this once…

We have traveled through the storms of our hatreds,
We have survived the wars of our ancestors,
We have our histories of our hopes, fears, love and every single virtue,
And today we write new ones.

Let this Christmas be one we may never forget,
Let our dreams that our hopes may be united with our hearts be fulfilled,
May those moments you wished and prayed for come to pass,
And may we not forget who we honor this Christmas.

And may we also never forget… the future we celebrate too.
