I deny myself the sinful delights that life comes brimming with,
The extra shiny sacrifice-to-appease luxuries,
That feels much more like a slave driver than any lover,
And the price is something more than any comfort will ever be worth.

I forsake the darkness that surrounds me,
And seek the light from all that would wage its war machines against me,
And I hold to hope like paper in the wind,
And as hopeless as it would seem, my banners of victory fly everyday.

Because everyday that I can stay true to the faith,
Is another day the forces that used to pillage my city, are denied their satisfaction,
Is another day that light shines from every door, of every house, of my heart, mind and soul,
In praise to God who has guided me here, to be the man I should have always been.

I look back now, and see how things were different,
How my life was determined by the tragedy of my emotional upheaval,
And life was vivid only because of the pain that beset me every day,
And how I was such a fool, to convince myself there was any other way.

For are we not all fools? Do we not all feel deeply, and see that as our guidance?
Is it not human to be led by our emotions? To feel deeply, or feel the deep loss of our emotions absence?
And what is to become of us, after we live our lives, what is the next step beyond humanity?
It is not to die, and be left as a memory. Our divinity, which is truly our purpose to attain, is that next step.

And as I deny certain options of choice, that would seem prime or undeniable pertaining to the natural desires built into every person,
I find clarity of mind, peace of soul and stillness of heart,
I find courage, hope, strength, faith, love, peace, purity, fortitude, light and balance,
And there is no other way straighter, than by the path that I walk now.

Amid the blaring noise and ceaseless static that fulfills its purpose well,
Amid the angry insults, and malicious publications of hate and misguided actions of judgmentsm
Amid all of the storms that wages its destruction upon every human being,
There is one thing that can never be denied, can rise louder than any of the blare, set right any of the wrongs, heal any would, and be the firm standard when all has become like water.

It’s speaks loudest, because it brings all others to silence,
And yet, remains a quiet as a whisper,
And upon it, is where justice and mercy find balance, where all of humanity finds peace.
It is truth, the real light, the shining guide, and it is with truth that I walk this path of mine.

And there is not a day that goes by before me,
That I do not wish to share the peace I feel with everyone I know,
That I am full of hope, love, joy, courage and peace because I live a life of truth,
And it is you Lord, who has shown me this way.

I strive to do what He would have me do,
I use my talents to take all the wisdom I can learn,
And assemble every line to be knowledge to be treasured,
And as I grow in choosing the right things, it is my hope, that in my actions, I can show someone, somewhere, that there truly is a better way.
